Flatmates revisited
I am furious!
A flatmate, who will remain nameless, is some 5 weeks behind on her rent. She is also playing the avoidance game, going to bed or leaving early/staying out late so she doesn't have to interact with the rest of us. This kind of conflict seriously stresses me out. I know she has  a limited income, but if she would show some willingness to sort the problem out, make some sort of repayment schedule and show how she can stick to it - there would be no hassle.

But this cowardly running and hiding behaviour is wearing out my patience and my sympathy.

Current Mood: irateirate

Oh dear, so on a limited income she'll be paying her standard rent plus owed rent? One of my flatmates did that, I left before it all hit the fan, but he didn't end up paying. Leave notes on the door, take the bond, evict before you get owed more money. Well..I know...that's a little heartless...but if she's doing the avoid thing she's possibly going to disappear at any moment anyway.

Yep, pretty much. The flatmate who holds the lease had a talk with her last night and the deal is 'make regular payments of $X on what you owe, or find your room advertised and your stuff on the street'. I wasn't there, but both of them were chatting cheerfully when I got home, so I think its probably sorted.
Call it tough love if you will, but I'm not a sucker for culpable blondness to the point of financial irresponsibility.
With my estimate of what she's earning vs what she's spending, she'll be able to stick to the deal made. Lessons fron the Aikido mat. Let them have a place to fall, and they won't panic and do something really stupid.
