The West coast of the North Island, about 7:30 pm. It's been a long day and the plane was an hour late taking off. We haven't passed Taranaki yet, so this is still somewhere in the Waikato.

Beautiful. I love the intimacy of flying over this small country. You know where you are almost all the time.
I remember flying over the US, west to east, en route to London, and thinking dozily that we must be almost to the other side, then realising that we'd only just crossed the Rockies. It's a whole other scale.
