Crane Fly


Leggy, but harmless. I wonder what evolutionary advantage the legs provide - they mostly look clumsy and vulnerable to damage.

"It is thought that such long legs enable them to land on grass; they are expendable so they can escape predators."
Also, the adults don't live for very long, only long enough to mate and lay eggs, so I suppose legs don't count for much.
