Lyall Bay

Lyall Bay.

Pluses, besides the obvious. It's flat, there's an excellent bus service, and good supermarket facilities nearby in Kilbirnie. There are good cafes.
Minuses. It's near the airport, a bit run down and a bit industrial in places and it's also further from town than where I am now. Also, there would only be minutes warning (if that) of any tsunami originating in Cook Strait.

Well yes, I'm well above woosh level where I am. OTOH, I have more risk of the neighbors' retaining wall coming through the back bedrooms here.

I take it you're thinking of moving?

It's beautiful, that's for sure. Having once lived on the beach in California, I'll note that winter mornings tend to be very raw and damp that close to the water.

Yes I will be moving when my current lease is up. Some place with fewer flatmates.
Raw and damp describes most of Wellington actually, the best one can hope for is decent insulation and the opportunity to catch what sun there is when it's there.
