No pictures tonight.

My thoughts go out to the families, friends and workmates of the men who died in the Pike River Mine explosions.
They also go to the police and rescue teams who have performed their duties with good sense in the face of difficult decisions and intense public scrutiny.

Yeah, that's a tough one.

Blood and bone is the price of coal. (Also copper, tin, and all the other things we dig out of mines deep underground.)

Yes. I had the priviledge to work with some of these men. We used to discuss how mining was so good for your wallet cos of the "danger money".

Not worth it.

How much did they actually make? I can't really imagine it was that much. The Coast is not exactly a wealthy part of the country...
