Yes! I saw a stingray today.
I dunno what it is about your end of the world, whether it's the relative lack of human pollution or the result of different currents... but the ocean there just looks different in every picture I've seen...
and I grew up on the coast here, and my favorite past-time was beach-combing, so I've seen pretty much every sea state there is to see here.
The water seems much clearer and a more intense blue/green than I've seen anywhere else [other than the tropics].
I have heard that the angle of the sunlight on the water affects the colour we see. We're at a lower latitude here than the UK, which may account for quite a lot of the difference. The Isles of Scilly are at 49deg55"N, the same latitude (except south), give or take a degree, as the (uninhabitable) Auckland Islands, somewhat south of Stewart Island. As I recall, you come from even higher latitudes than that.
