Paddington markets

Paddington markets, one of many, many outdoor markets in Sydney. This one specialises in vintage clothes and up and coming new designers but has everything from photography and decoupage to art glass. I bought a printed tee and a small stripy slumped glass bowl.

That's an impressive looking resonator guitar the gent in the last picture is playing. I don't think I've ever seen another quite like it. I do, however, own an electronic chromatic tuner that's a twin for the one clipped to the top of the ukulele.

He did tell us what the guitar was, but I have an erratic memory for that sort of detail. It looks quite a lot like one of these but with some sort of modification or repair on the fretboard.

Yes, I think you have it. I'd never seen that particular model National resonator before today. My guess is the neck was repaired somewhere along the line.

Did you like the sound? They're louder than wooden guitars, and have a distinctive twang to them.

Yes, yes I did. They were playing blue-grassy style covers of all sorts of things, including a rendition of Maxwell's Silver Hammer for little Max, so it was definitely the right tool for the job.

They did apologise for singing a song about a serial killer for a baby, but it was the only "Max" song they had...
