Tsunami warning.

A magnitude 8.8 earthquake in Chile, and the entire East coast of NZ is under a tsunami alert. There are reports of receding water in Gisbourne and a surge in Akaroa and Lyttleton harbours.
I'm 150 metres above sea level so should be fine, but many low lying areas are being warned to prepare for evacuation.

Yeah there are some. Daft thing is, tsunami don't produce surfable waves anyway - just the mother of all undertows.

Well - no excitement, which is good. The alert has been downgraded to an advisory, and although several coastal areas reported surges, I haven't heard of any damage.

Stay safe!

And I hope everyone on lower ground does, too...
