Waxeye haz a pair

Because visual puns are more important than focus.

Wanna make something of it?

These little guys are tiny and nervous - they don't much like the whirr-and-clunk of the of the camera, but you've got to get reasonably close to get them at all. They're also crepuscular (love that word) so they tend to arrive just as the light is leaving.
I pre-focussed on the fruit to minimise the whirr, and have just realised that if I shot in live view mode that would put paid to the clunk of the mirror flying up. Also, hanging out on the deck more should desensitise them to me.

Also I saw - but wasn't able to shoot, damnit, a hairy tui tongue. Tui are honey-eaters and usually feed beak-deep in various flowers so you don't see the tongue which is evolved to pick up nectar. Here, they're coming in to steal the juice after the waxeyes and sparrows have pecked an opening in the fruit with tongues exposed for all to see.
