This is awesome. And I love the punk-rock robin with all the wristbands :)

Although this doesn't strike me as being a "robin" cause I don't see any red on him., but it's nicely sharp on the bird and nicely soft on the background... great job!

Shame about that little leaf/branch in the foreground. Wildlife is such a pain in the butt :)

New Zealand robins, North American robins and European robins are all different species - no red on the NZ varieties, but they do fit into the same ecological niche. They mooch around in the shade in the undergrowth, hence the wide open aperture so the softness is a pragmatic rather than an artistic decision, although it works to de-emphasize the leaf.
I did end up with an awful lot of small grey bird shaped blurs.

Huh... I had no idea that the NZ robin didn't have any red. The NA robin (who sort of looks like a very small crow with a bright bright red breast) looks DRASTICALLY different than the English robins (which are very anime looking... round, brown back, pinkish red breast). Your NZ robins look a lot like the English robins, but without the red, but nothing like the NA robins (at least what I've been told are robins here.

I don't know anything about birds except that most of them fly :)

I imagine what happened was when my ancestors and yours jumped off their respective boats in a new and wild land, they didn't have a whole lot of time in between avoiding starvation and building international relations to think up new names for the wildlife. So they often just picked the closest match from the old country and used that.
