You hadn't? I take it you haven't seen them in real life either. They occur in Maryland, according to this.
They're a common weed here, and a "Don't touch, Poisonous"

From the distribution in West Virginia and Pennsylvania, I'd guess it only grows in far western Maryland. There is no breakdown by county for Maryland, so I'm having to speculate, but I'm assuming a continuous band from western Pennsylvania down into Maryland and thence into West Virginia.
It also doesn't say anything about how common they are - or aren't.
