How do you persuade an Afghan warlord to give up his tank?
With tea apparently. Lots of tea.

Former New Zealand Army captain Karl Maddaford worked with the United Nations in Afghanistan for four years in various roles, including security for elections and cantoning heavy weapons off warlords and the Taliban. He is currently in charge of a project for a private Afghan company to build police check points on the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan.

I think the Kiwi's are more English than the english nowadays... we bult an empire using roughly the same techniques after all. [well, our military played a part too but we were usually vastly outnumbered.]

Fascinating listening anyway, I'll repost to my blog if you don't mind.
