Christchurch - a brief and only somewhat accurate historical overview.|
About 150 years ago a couple of blokes decided to get as far away from England as it was technologically possible to get at the time, and then make the surroundings as English as they possibly could. So they found a swamp, drained it, planted oaks and daffodils, and called it Christchurch
It's quite nice, actually.

Wow, that's beautiful. I doubt the whole place looks that good, but I understand it's a very nice place.
I like this shot for the colours and contrast between the still bare trees and the flowers in the foreground. You'd be right, though, the city isn't all this sort of somewhat clichéd and conventionally pretty. There is a fair amount of it though, in public and private gardens and this can be the sort of place where "most attractive street" type awards are displayed proudly on suburban signposts.
Maybe I'll post some 1960's institutional architecture shots in the near future, for balance.
