The stuff that sticks kelp to the rocks is one of the strongest adhesives known, which means that it must have taken one hell of a lot of power to rip this from the sea-floor. This could come in useful.

And because I don't always forget that I'm a scientist - have a scale.

That's some big kelp.

I loathe the stuff because it would wrap itself around my legs while I was diving. It's a very unpleasant feeling to be 60 feet under water and have something that feels like the tentacles of a giant squid grabbing your legs.

Yes, I can see how that would key into a whole range of primal fears. Quite an accomplishment for something that is technically an algae.
