I guess if you only get to flower once, you'd better do it properly.

Corporate style training is exhausting. I've just done two full days of GIS training covering everything from SQL queries to layout and formatting  issues to converting between datums and projections. My brain is full. On the plus side, once I've digested all this I should get to play with more maps at work!

It's not a tree. It's a yucca flower spike.

Oh! They're all over southern Arizona, where I spent a fair part of my childhood. I hadn't realized they were in New Zealand too.

They're not indigenous but are pretty common round here as ornamental plants. This one's in the botanic gardens.
