Spotlight spider
Seriously, this is your arachnophobe warning.

One of many bloody great spiders lurking in the sash windows and down the path. I think this one's a black tunnelweb. They hide during the day and come out after dark.
The blue cast to the light is due to using an led torch as the light source, and forgetting to take the camera's white balance off incandescent, but I rather like the effect.

By..."bloody great" how big do you mean exactly? Thumb sized, or hand-sized ?

I mean, I am arachnophobic, but I can cheerfully put up with smallish ones if they stay away...

NM, found the info.. they're about as bad as one of our wolf-spiders and a tad bit smaller.

Its body is about 7x15mm. It's plenty big enough for a house-spider. They are shy though, and run away if you accidentally touch their webs.
